Women's Champions League: Arsenal beat Fiorentina 4-0; Man City thrash Lugano 7-1

Manchester City and Arsenal both made convincing starts to their Women's Champions League campaigns with emphatic victories away from home.

City thrashed Swiss side Lugano 7-1 in the first leg of their round of 32 tie while Arsenal eased to a 4-0 victory at Fiorentina.

City dominated at the Cornaredo Stadium but were remarkably being held 1-1 at the interval.

They took the lead through Georgia Stanway and hit the woodwork twice but Kaela Lee Dickerman equalised against the run of play just before the break.

Aoife Mannion restored City's lead from the penalty spot after 48 minutes and the visitors then took firm control with a well-taken Pauline Bremer double.

Three more goals came in the final seven minutes with Caroline Weir twice on target, either side of a Janine Beckie effort.

Arsenal were also in fine goalscoring touch at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, where they were playing their first European fixture in more than five years.

Vivianne Miedema opened the scoring after 18 minutes and set up Kim Little to double the lead before the break.

Miedema pounced on a poor backpass to claim her second after 51 minutes and Lisa Evans completed the scoring with a powerful volley.
