Women in UK clinging onto £13 BILLION of unwanted clothes in their wardrobes

Women in the UK are clinging on to unwanted clothes worth £13billion, a poll found.

The average woman had 13 items, worth £504, they no longer wore or fitted into, the research suggested.

One in six women said old clothes reminded them of a place, person or experience.

One in five had items that were too small, hoping they would squeeze back into them one day.

An estimated 235 million items of unwanted clothing went into landfill in 2017.

Nine out of 10 women said they would prefer to recycle clothes by selling them or donating them to charity, rather than throw them away.

Eric Gagnaire, of patatam.co.uk, which carried out the poll, said: “It’s amazing to see how much money women have sat in their wardrobes, in the form of clothing they no longer want.

“It’s incredible the appetite there is to ensure they get rid of these in a responsible way.”
