Name: Claire Gott
Company: WSP UK
Title: Structural Engineer
Claire joined WSP in 2010 and her engagement with women in engineering has grown significantly post-university. In 2011 she was NCE Graduate of the Year, representing the ICE as a role model for young engineers. In 2012 she became part of WSP Taskforce, a highly sought after elite group of Early Career Professionals within the UK Company and was also asked to join the Government's Green Construction Board Promotional Working Group to represent the views of the youth in our sector. This year she has had the privilege of working alongside Barry Clarke as an ICE President's Apprentice, a role which involves developing the ICE's approach to inspiring the next generation, building upon the work currently being done around incentivising and delivering engineering career advice across the UK to support and encourage more students into engineering.
The latter is closely aligned with Claire's personal interest of promoting careers in engineering, which she strives to deliver through her leadership role at the charity engineering organisation Cameroon Catalyst, as a STEMnet ambassador and as part of WSP's schools engagement program, LaunchPad.
Claire strongly believes that it is our responsibility, as practicing engineers, to engage with the younger generation and equip them with the skills to successfully meet the challenges of tomorrow.
With females representing one fifth of our engineers at WSP, she says: "I am fortunate to work for a firm that shares my view and recognises the need for a diverse workforce to ensure we have the very best skills to deliver on these challenges."
