Women in 41 Countries Work 266 Minutes for Free

Women work four hours and 26 minutes every day without being paid in many countries worldwide.

The International Labor Organization (ILO) in Geneva announced that according to a new study covering 41 countries, this work period includes household chores, family care, and charity and social activities, the German News Agency reported.

The study revealed nothing on men's situation, but, it found that women in the 41 countries covered by the study work an average of four hours and 26 minutes without being paid compared with 108 minutes for men.

The study said along a paid job, the burden of unpaid works such as household chores, family care, and charitable activities carried out by women exceeds the burden shouldered by men in these areas. The average working hours of women in these areas is 55 hours a week, compared with 49 for men.

The study involved 1.2 billion workers in 41 countries including the 28 EU members, China, South Korea, Turkey, and the United States, along with some southern and central Latin American countries.
