A man was arrested after a robbery attempt on two women in a car park lift in the city centre.
The victims entered the lift at the Q Park, on Hanover Street, shortly after 1pm on Wednesday when a man also got in and threatened them.
He was holding what appeared to be a firearm, and demanded cash and mobile phones from the women.
When they bravely refused to hand them over, the attempted robber made off on foot in the direction of Gradwell Street.
No injuries have been reported.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "A 50-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of robbery and possession of a firearm without a certificate.
"He has been taken to a police station to be interviewed."
