A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said a 51 year old man from Merseyside was quizzed over the comments.

They added that he will now be summonsed to appear in connection with a Section 5 Public Order Offence.

The force moved to reassure people living in Ormskirk that police take 'all reports of this nature' seriously.

Officers also thanked the women for coming forward with their reports and the public for their support.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We had recently been made aware of a man approaching and making inappropriate comments to women in Ormskirk.
