Women dies after being hit by Mini Cooper

A woman has died after being hit by a Mini Cooper in Wigan.

Emergency Services rushed to Kirkhall Lane, Leigh, at around 1.30am on Wedensday, April 20, following reports of a crash. Once at the scene officers and paramedics found a woman was hit by a blue Mini Cooper, which was travelling towards Atherleigh Way, MEN reports.

Police have since confirmed the woman has died. The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and has been assisting officers as they make enquiries.

Paramedics from the North West Ambulance service also attended the scene, which saw the road closed off overnight before reopening shortly before 8am.

PC Phil Collingwood, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost our thoughts remain with the woman’s friends and family who are understandably devastated. We’ve been following up a number of lines of enquiry throughout the night and we remained at the scene this morning carrying out a thorough investigation to find the answers the woman’s friends and family need."

Anyone with information or anyone who may have seen anything is asked to report it online or via LiveChat at www.gmp.police.uk. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
