Two women have been caught on CCTV putting their own hair into a pizza to get a refund of just £7.
After reportedly complaining at The Peacock Pub in Sunderland, bar staff apologised to the two women and gave them a reimbursement - and free drinks.
Staff had no reason to believe the complaint wasn't genuine but, on closer examination, they realised that the hair in the pizza didn't match that of anyone on shift.
An examination of CCTV footage then showed the women pulling out their own hair and adding it to the pizza, which they'd mostly eaten.
The pub's owners Pub Culture Ltd slammed the the 'cynical stunt' and released the footage to stop others from trying it on.
Operations director Joe Smith told the Metro : "You would never suspect that someone would be malicious enough to do something like this.
"It was clear that the hair on the pizza was a completely different colour to that of any of our staff members on shift.
"Our staff went into the office to check the CCTV and couldn’t believe what they saw," he continued.
"It’s testament to our great staff that they not only got to the bottom of the issue but, despite their concerns, still managed to treat the customer with the utmost respect until they had the evidence they needed to prove exactly what they had done."
