Women arrested on suspicion of neglect after children were found nightswimming in dangerous seas

Two women were arrested following reports of children in the water at a Welsh beach on Tuesday evening (November 17).

A Tesco delivery driver raised the alarm that two adults and four children were apparently night swimming in Caswell Bay near Swansea.

At 8.50pm, Mumbles and Oxwich Coastguard crews, South Wales Police, and a rescue helicopter from MoD St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan all responded to the report of people in the water in pitch black and dangerous conditions at high tide.

When the emergency services arrived at Caswell Bay all six people were back on the beach and two women were subsequently arrested in connection with the incident.

Following the incident, Mumbles Coastguard tweeted: "Pitch darkness, high tide, blowing a force 4 is not the place for your children's swimming lessons."
