Police have fined a woman for being in breach of COVID-19 public health orders after she was unable to provide proof of vaccination to officers who visited a barbershop at Warners Bay on Monday.
Police went to Walkabout Barber Enterprises on Hillsborough Road about 10.30am after a tip from a member of the public.
They spoke with two female staff members. One of them, a 24-year-old, was unable to show police proof of vaccination as required under the revised public health orders that took effect this week.
Officers handed the woman a $1000 fine.
In a post on the business' Facebook page on Monday afternoon, management said it had been given the choice to serve only fully vaccinated people until December 1 or to stop trading until then.
In light of that, the business would not reopen until the start of December, the post said.
"I know that we have many beautiful vaccinated clients, as well as many beautiful un vaccinated clients, and it pains us to decide if we stay open for one, and not the other!
"We have been closed now and struggled to make ends meet for the past ten weeks, and we are now looking down the barrel of being closed for a further 7 weeks, due to our commitment to all of the people we serve, not just some of the people we serve!"
Barbershops and beauty salons were among a range of businesses that reopened to the public on Monday after COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in force since early August eased.
But the wind-back applies only to people who have had two coronavirus vaccinations, until December 1.
