Woman with heart condition 'told to wrap up' by council after heating failed

A woman says she was told to 'wrap up' by the council calling their emergency line when her heating failed.

Diane Brimble 76 and her partner and carer Gary Evans, 58, contacted Bristol City Council's emergency department when their gas radiators stopped working at around 3pm on Sunday.

But they were shocked when the call handler allegedly told them the problem wasn't serious enough to send somebody out on the weekend.

Gary then says he was told the pair should 'wrap up' until engineers could reach them on a weekday, reports Bristol Live.

Temperatures dipped to 3C on Sunday night and he said the couple "were freezing".

He added: "I'm very annoyed with her (call handler).

"My wife isn't well, she's had a heart attack.

"The woman said it wasn't urgent enough and that we should just wrap up.

"It's freezing in here and it's going to get colder."

Council officers attended their address on Monday and fixed their heating.

A Bristol City Council spokesperson said: “Heating was restored within 24 hours of the report.

"We know how important it is to our tenants that issues are fixed as soon as possible, and thank them for their patience while we respond.”
