Woman with 'great sense of humour' named as 57-year-old found dead outside her home

Neighbours have paid tribute to a woman found dead outside her home in the Rhondda just days after Christmas.

The 57-year-old woman, named locally as Eryl Evans, is understood to have been found dead in the garden of her home in Eileen Place in Treherbert at 5.45am on Friday, December 27.

Police remain at the house while their investigations continue. The circumstances around her death remain under investigation.

A neighbour, who did not wish to be identified, said: "She had a great sense of humour and I would see her every now and again in the shop.

"She lived round here for ages and everybody knew her."

Another neighbour said: "She was nice enough to speak to and both her and her husband were good as gold. It's very sad."

Police remained at the scene on December 31 (Mark Lewis)

On Monday a spokesman from South Wales Police said: "Police can confirm the sudden death of a 57-year-old woman who was discovered outside her home on Eileen Place, Treherbert, at approximately 5.45am on December 27, 2019.

"Her death is currently being treated as unexplained and an investigation into the circumstances is under way."

On January 1 a police spokesman confirmed the death was not being treated as suspicious.
