Woman with cerebral palsy who took up horse-riding aged two wins Wales' first medal at Paralympics after last-minute Tokyo call-up

Georgia Wilson has claimed Wales' first medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games on her debut.

The 25-year-old from Abergele, who was a last-minute call-up to the GB equestrian team, claimed a dressage bronze in the individual test (grade 2) on Thursday on day two of the Games.

Her Paralympics debut produced a "stunning" 72.882% on seven-year-old horse Sakura.

Wilson, who has cerebral palsy, first took up riding aged two after her mum was advised by her physiotherapist that it would help with her balance.

She was called up for the Paralympic Games at the 11th hour due to Sophie Christiansen's horse having a veterinary issue.

Wilson first made her mark in the sport at the 2019 European Championships, where she picked up two silvers and gold in the freestyle competition and helped the British team win silver.

Meanwhile, fellow Brit Sir Lee Pearson won his 12th Paralympic title when he claimed gold in the same event, after a scoring of 76.265%

The Para-equestrian star and horse Breezer claimed gold, a result which sees Sir Lee overtake Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and former swimmer Dave Roberts in the British all-time list.

Sir Lee, who first made his international debut in 1999, was born with the condition arthrogryposis, which meant the muscles in his arms and legs grew as scar tissue in the womb.
