Woman wins £35k campervan from £6 raffle ticket despite not having driving licence

A woman’s ‘dream’ came true after scooping a £35k campervan despite not having a driving license.

Emma, 26, who lives in Liverpool, won an online competition she forgot she had even entered.

She was left in shock when she received a phone call informing her she was the winner of the converted Peugeot Boxer Campervan worth an estimated £35,000.

The 26-year-old thought the phone call was ‘a joke’ because she had forgotten she had bought tickets which cost her £13 altogether.

Emma, a carer who supports visual impaired young adults, said: “I was just at home on the night I won and I had two missed calls and a text from Vanny Campers. I phoned them back and I think they were still on air and they said that I’d won.

“At first I thought it was a joke because I couldn’t actually remember buying these tickets so it took me a couple of minutes to realise.

“The text just said ‘it’s VannyCampers can you give us a call?’ At that point I called them and I was like I don’t know who they are.

“I just forgot and didn’t think I’d bought tickets for it so I was quite surprised.”

The campervan enthusiast who says it has always been her ‘dream’ to own a campervan added: “Since I found out I won I feel like I’ve gone a bit mad. I’ve never won anything and the first couple of nights I couldn’t sleep properly, I was so excited and constantly looking at all the pictures and videos.

“It has always been my dream. If you speak to any of my family they know. I’ve bought a book of how to live and travel in a van. I’ve followed all pages of campervan conversions. I just love the idea of being able to get in a van and go.”

Despite now being the proud owner of a pristine converted campervan, when Emma won she didn't actually have a driving licence. She passed yesterday Friday, April 23.

She undertook an intensive driving course in a bid to fast track her much anticipated first test drive.

Emma has already started thinking about where she will visit first when she is able to. She said: “Down to Cornwall, that’s always my favourite place and there’s always the Lake District.

“Hopefully in the Summer I could go to France, I think that’s the first place abroad I want to go.

“The year before I went travelling around Europe for two weeks cramped up in an estate car. It will be nice now to do it in a campervan.”

VannyCampers owner, Ryan Brewer, 35, who runs campervan competitions for a living, and has done for a number of years says he loves “making people’s dreams come true”.

Speaking to the Echo, the 35-year-old, who already has his next competition on his VannyCampers website, said: “We love seeing Becky and her reaction, it’s just an amazing thing."
