Woman whose seat was punched by angry passenger wants American Airlines flight attendant sacked

A woman who became embroiled in a tense plane-seat encounter that went viral has called for a flight attendant to be sacked.

Wendi Williams boarded an American Airlines flight from New Orelans to Charlotte, found her seat and eased the chair backwards.

A short while afterwards the man sat behind her started hitting her seat, seemingly incensed that he could not recline because of his position at the back of the plane.

With a video of the encounter Wendi took now having been shared thousands of times online, she has broken her silence about the confrontation.

She has called for the flight attendant who intervened to be fired and is considering pressing charges against the as-yet unidentified man.

Wendi told Fox and Friend that the man should be charged with assault and that the American Eagle flight attendant should be shown the door.

“I was leaving a teacher's conference and we got onto the plane and the man behind me, as soon as we got in the air, I reclined and he asked me if … I would put my seat back up while he ate, which I did,” she said.

“About 10 minutes later, he was done and I put my seat back down at which point he started full-on punching the back of my seat really hard that I was flying forward.”

Wendi said she then tried and failed to get the attendant's attention.

In a bid to stop the man she began filming him, which saw him adjust his earlier 'punches' to the 'poking' seen in the clip.

When the attendant eventually came over, Wendi said she was kind to the man but had an 'attitude' with her.

“I want to know who he is," Wendi told  TMZ on Friday.

"I would like to press charges against this man. I was assaulted on this plane."

An American Airlines spokesperson said: “We are aware of a customer dispute that transpired on American Eagle flight 4392, operated by Republic Airways on January 31st.

"The safety and comfort of our customers and team members is our top priority and our team is looking into the issue.”
