Woman whose lip 'QUADRUPLED' after botched fillers says nurses laughed at her

A woman whose lip 'QUADRUPLED' after having botched fillers says nurses at the hospital laughed at her.

Rachael Knappier wants tighter regulations after nearly losing her top lip when an injection went horribly wrong.

The 29-year-old had injections at a 'Botox party' on the recommendation of her friend - then suffered a "terrifying" ordeal.

Rachael had a lump on her lip following an accident and jumped at the chance to fix her "biggest insecurity" without asking any questions.

Speaking on This Morning, she said: "It was fine. I went to bed. I woke up at 2.00 in the morning and saw what you see in those pictures.

Woman nearly lost LIP after 'Botox Party' fillers caused them to 'double in size'

"My lips touched my nose. They quadrupled in size. The pressure and burning on my lips was unbelievable."

Rachael rushed to A&E and got a strange reaction from the nurses as they started laughing.

She said: "They hadn’t seen anything like it before. I’ve turned up to A&E with this huge thing on my face.

"I’m telling them I’m having an allergic reaction, which is what I thought was happening. Three doctors said I'd actually had the filler injected into my artery."

After 72 hours Rachael's lip filler had dissolved and they went back down to normal size.

She is now campaigning for tighter regulations and informing others of the dangers of lip fillers with the message: "Protect before you inject."

The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) has reported a dramatic increase in the number of unregulated procedures - with no qualifications needed to perform lip filler injections in the UK.

Dr Tijon Esho, who joined Rachael in the studio, said she was lucky not to lose her lip and advises only getting the procedure done by a doctor, nurse or dentist.

The doctor has been approached by children as young as 13 who want lip fillers.

He said: "She was lucky it was identified as this and had the right agent to dissolve the filler. Many people have life-changing injuries because of this."
