Woman who wrote a children's book on grief after her husband's sudden death is charged with his murder

Author Kouri Richins, who wrote a children's book on grief after her husband Eric Richins' sudden death in March 2022, has been charged with murdering him.

"Kouri Richins was arrested on Monday (May 8, 2023) in Utah and is accused in charging documents of poisoning her husband with a lethal dose of fentanyl at their home in Kamas, a small mountain town near Park City," reported AP.

Prosecutors have alleged that on March 4, 2022, when Richins found her husband Eric in an unconscious state she called 911 for help but he was declared dead later. Kouri Richins, who is the mother of three young boys, had told the officers that she had given her husband a vodka drink as they were celebrating his success of selling a home. She then slept with her children in another room and later found her husband “cold to the touch” in their room.

However, medical reports revealed Eric Richins had over five times lethal dosage of fentanyl in his body.

Apart from being accused of murdering her husband, Richins is also charged for alleged illegal possession of the GHB drug.

The charges against Richins are based on officers’ interactions with Richins that night and the account of an “unnamed acquaintance” who claims to have sold her the fentanyl, according to AP.

Just two months ago Richins released her children's book on grief titled 'Are You With Me?'. In a local TV interview, she had shared that she wrote the book with her sons to help them cope with the sudden death of her husband and their father.

Meanwhile, Skye Lazaro- Richins’ attorney- has declined to comment on the matter.
