Woman who went missing before being found dead at park was suffering from depression, inquest opening hears

A woman who went missing before being found dead at a park was suffering from depression, an inquest opening has heard.

Paulina Biernacka disappeared in the early hours of Sunday, October 18, 2020 after last being seen on Jetson Street, Abbey Hey, in Gorton.

Officers searching for the 26-year-old said they believed she went missing without money or belongings.

Forensic officers were pictured at nearby Debdale park later that day.

Police said they were searching the area as part of a missing person enquiry.

Officers later confirmed a body - believed to be that of Ms Biernacka - had been discovered.

The inquest was heard at the H.M. Coroners Court in the Royal Exchange Building (Manchester Evening News)

She was found in a reservoir by an underwater search team.

Her death was not treated as suspicious.

An inquest has now been opened at Manchester Coroners' Court.

Senior coroner Nigel Meadows said Ms Biernacka, a factory worker of Polish descent, was reported to have been suffering from depression.

Mr Meadows said he would request a witness statement from Ms Biernacka's flatmate, statements from her family in Poland and a report from a senior Detective Inspector on the case.

He adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed.
