Woman who was tasered on Deansgate after being seen with knife sectioned under Mental Health Act

A woman who was seen walking along Deansgate with a knife has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

Armed police rushed to the area after witnesses flagged passing officers down and said they saw a woman carrying the weapon.

Officers deployed a Taser during the incident on Thursday morning.

She has since been detained under the Mental Health Act.

A tweet from the Greater Manchester Police City Centre account said: "An update on yesterdays incident where the woman on Deansgate with the knife was arrested.

"She has now been detained under the mental health act so will hopefully be receiving support & treatment.

"Many thanks to the witnesses who flagged the officers down."

A GMP spokesman said in a statement yesterday: "A 48-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article."
