Woman who was banned from almost every shop in England targets Bristol in new spree

A woman who was until recently banned from almost every store in England travelled to Cribbs Causeway for a shoplifting spree.

Anna Burns stole £222.91 worth of items from The Mall days after being released from Falfield's HMP Eastwood Park, where she had been imprisoned following a previous spate of thefts.

The 34-year-old, of no fixed address, was jailed for 10 weeks at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on February 29, after admitting the shoplifting at Cribbs.

A Swindon Crown Court judge banned the persistent offender from almost every shop in England and Wales on November 19 last year, after stealing from six stores in the Wiltshire town.

Her bail conditions meant the only two shops she could enter were a pharmacy and Tesco Metro in Swindon.

Staff then barred Burns from the Tesco Metro, which left her relying on soup kitchens for food.

She breached the judge’s ban on November 29, shoplifting almost £85 worth of goods from Swindon stores – including a premium £6.60 sandwich from Greggs.

Hours after appearing at Swindon Crown Court on January 7, she went to Boots and stole £40 worth of makeup.

Burns admitted the thefts and was handed a 22-week jail term at the crown court on February 8.

She got an early release and embarked on another shoplifting spree on February 27, this time at The Mall in Cribbs Causeway.
