Woman who suffered 'very painful' leg injury after slipping on ice rescued

Bolton Mountain Rescue Team (BMRT) volunteers and an ambulance attended after a woman slipped on ice.

The volunteer team were called to the Turton area of Bolton by North West Ambulance Service after a 59-year-old woman injured herself, while out walking.

BMRT sent two vehicles and 15 volunteers to the scene, at around 11.15am yesterday (Monday January 25).

A spokesman for the team said: "The 59 year old lady had slipped on ice whilst out walking and suffered a very painful leg injury.

"The team administered pain relief and as the location was inaccessible by ambulance, due to the snow and ice, she was extracted on a stretcher 800m to the road head and the waiting ambulance.

"We wish her a speedy recovery."
