Woman who started periods at 18-months-old horrified by US abortion laws

A woman with a medical condition that meant she could get pregnant as a child said that the overturning of abortion rules in the US could have resulted in her having a baby - despite being a child herself.

Liza Louise went through precocious puberty, where a child develops much sooner than usual - and she even started getting periods when she was just 18 months old.

She said that she had fully-formed breasts by the age of 11, and would have been able to fall pregnant before she was even a teenager.

Liza, now 23, said that the overturning of Roe v Wade would mean that women with her condition would have had to carry and deliver the baby - even though she clearly would not have been able to care for it.

Liza, of Newcastle, said: "I developed much quicker than everyone else, physically. I was in primary school when I realised that I was different.

"It was very obvious to other people and parents because of the size of my chest. It was a major barrier for making friends.

"No-one else in my family has this. My parents were scared at first but thankfully the doctors explained everything to them.

"My parents were always the ones encouraging me that it was normal and to not feel segregated.

"It was incredibly scary but because of how open and supportive my parents were I had all of the support I needed.

"My school also kept pads for me and allowed me to take time out of lessons. It made the process easier and made me feel better in myself."

The northerner decided to share her story on TikTok in protest of the US Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade, a controversial ruling that removed the constitutional right to abortion.

The shocking video, which racked up 5.4 million views, features an image of baby Liza captioned: "I got my period at 18 months old so you're saying… She could birth and care for a child?"

She continued: "There are people saying 'if you are old enough to bleed, you are old enough to take care of a child.'

"I thought my situation was the perfect scenario to educate people. It's good to know I've been able to inform people of what can happen.

"Spreading awareness has been really good.

"I've always been a person looking to help others and because of how big social media is, especially TikTok, it's one of the biggest influencers for young people.

"The amount of people who can relate to me has been great. It's nice for me knowing I wasn't the only one who experienced this and that I have helped others."

As a result of her condition, Liza started having irregular periods as a baby before her cycle became regular at the age of eight.

Liza endured painful, heavy periods and had to have a hysterectomy, a surgical procedure to open the hymen as an infant before being placed on the contraceptive pill at 13.
