Woman who slammed bride over 'table cloth' wedding dress accused of fat shaming

People who slammed a bride for wearing a wedding dress that looked like a "table cloth" have been accused of fat-shaming.

Online commenters claimed the dress looked like it was "made from curtains" and resembled a "nightgown."

And many claimed the woman's friends should have told her not to wear the gown as it was "unflattering" and "ugly."

Hundreds of people debated the outfit choice on Facebook group  That's It, I'm Wedding Shaming after a woman from Norway shared the photo of the anonymous bride taking a mirror selfie in her chosen dress.

People questioned where her friends were, with on writing: "There are options to be wowed and be flattering, this dress is NOT it.

"Where are her friends, my friends vetoed some bad choices."

And another wrote: "How were none of her friends willing to help her find something that doesn't look like it's made from curtains?"

A third wrote: "That's a table cloth. Why are her friends lying to her like this."

However, other people leapt to the bride's defence, claiming she could have felt more comfortable in dress.

And many claimed that people were "plus size shaming" by questioning her choice.

One person wrote: "Maybe she feels like it's the only thing she'd be comfortable in... a lot of plus size women in my size and hers tend to get discouraged.

"This isn't shame worthy."

Another added: "We should probably talk about how hard it is to find an affordable wedding dress for plus size women that doesn't look like a smock before we laugh and pretend that this was her dream dress."

Others felt it as more 'dress-shaing' than fat-shaming,' with one person writing: "Why is it so hard for people to accept the fact that this post is dress shaming not fat shaming.

"This is a table cloth that would look awful on anyone, she would look absolutely amazing in an empire waist dress."

A second shared: "This outfit would be shame worthy even if it was on someone that's a size two. I could careless about her size, the outfit is ugly."
