Woman who plunged onto concrete in Ibiza 'won't shut up' after waking from coma

A woman who was comatose after falling from a window while on holiday in Ibiza now 'won't shut up'.

Monica McGeachie toppled out of a first-floor window, which had no glass in it, and fell 12ft onto concrete at the Piscis Park hotel last month.

She had been leaning on the window frame in the two-star hotel's restaurant when she tumbled.

The 30-year-old was put in an induced coma in hospital on the Spanish party island, leaving distraught relatives to fly out to be with her.

Monica, of Johnstone, Renfrewshire, was airlifted back to Scotland and is being treated in the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, Renfrewshire.

She also broke her back and ankles in the impact, which occurred during a celebration of her 30th birthday.

Her sister JoAnne, 38, said her sister now 'won't shut up' and is desperate to make a speedy recovery so she can get back to work as a commercial driver.

JoAnne said: "Monica's body is still sore and that does get her down a bit but at least she is awake and talking.

"In fact, she hasn't shut up since she came round.

"She is miles ahead of where we thought she would be at this stage.

"She was absolutely desperate to get home and is delighted.

"She is doing brilliantly but it is going to take a lot of work for her to fully recover.

"She is over the moon to be back in Scotland but is desperate to get back to work and has actually been a bit bored.

"She has had to get her hair shaved off and was a bit down at first but now she is making jokes about it.

"In all of this, her personality has just shone through and she has always been our Monica."

A friend set up a JustGiving page to help the family meet the costs of travelling to Spain and paying for accommodation.

Generous donors raised £10,000.

JoAnne said: "We are so grateful for all of the support we have had.

"It is a bit too early for it to really sink in with Monica but I know she will appreciate it when it does."
