Woman who murdered partner with steak knife sobs in chilling police bodycam footage

Chilling police bodycam footage has been released showing a woman crying after she stabbed her partner to death with a steak knife.

The clip taken from police bodycam features Emma-Jayne Magson sobbing in front of officers after she killed James Knight in a drunken spat in 2016.

She waited 45 minutes before calling 999 despite attacking the dad-of-two with a 11.5cm long blade.

On Monday the 28-year-old from Leicester was jailed for life with a minimum of 17 years in prison on Monday following a retrial.

She had denied murder at the first trial, claiming self defence, but was convicted before appealing.

In January last year, the Court of Appeal ordered a retrial after new psychiatric evidence showed the defence of diminished responsibility would have been available to Magson at her first trial, Birmingham Live reports.

Clare Wade QC said Magson suffered from emotionally unstable personality disorder (EUPD), which she said "lay in the appellant having endured a childhood which was characterised by exposure to domestic violence", as well as "parental neglect" and being bullied at school.

But on March 5 she was found guilty a second time.

Mr Justice Jeremy Baker told her: "I regret I am unconvinced you have, as yet, any real remorse for having caused James Knight's death."

Chilling footage from the night in question has been released which shows Magson crying crocodile tears after she stabbed the dad-of-two.

After waiting 45 minutes to call 999 Magson failed to mention to the operator that she stabbed him instead she claimed he was just "too smashed".

She says: "My boyfriend is here and he's making weird noises, I don't know what's going on.

"He's got a lot of blood on him. I don't know what's up with him. James turn round so I know what's up with you.

"Now he's stopped making noises. He seemed fine, he's come home to me as I've been out all night and he's collapsed on the floor.

"He's breathing fine, its like he is asleep. I don't know if he's making noises for my sake or what. Now its just like he's asleep.

"I don't know if something is up with him or if he's playing me about. It looks like he is sleeping but its not like he usually sleeps."

When a call operator warned her the ambulance might be delayed, she calmly replied: "No, that's fine, don't worry about it.

"I just think he's too smashed, that's what I think."

She claimed Mr Knight had collapsed and when a call operator warned her the ambulance might be delayed, she calmly replied: "No, that's fine, don't worry about it."

She then appears to become more agitated as she screams: "I don't care just get my boyfriend out" before adding: "I don't care as long as he is alive".

Magson can then be heard sobbing as she bangs on the front door and says "I want my boyfriend" and "James, come on."
