Woman who hid in boot arrested after illegally crossing into Queensland

NSW woman arrested after illegally crossing Queensland border

A woman who was previously intercepted by police while trying to illegally cross into Queensland in the boot of a car was arrested after she breached the border.

The 49-year-old woman was found at a house in Warwick, in Queensland's southern inland, at 8:20am on Friday after police identified a car parked outside that is registered to her.

It is the fourth time she has been caught trying to cross into the state from New South Wales.

On August 18, she was found by police at the border crossing at Goondiwindi hiding under blankets in the boot of a car that was on the back of a tow truck.

Police intercepted the tow truck and directed the male driver to open the boot of the sedan, which was in the tray of the truck.

A woman has been caught trying to cross the Queensland border in a car boot.

She was arrested and transported to Boggabilla in NSW and fined $4,135 for failing to comply under COVID-19 with a border direction.

Twice previously she had been denied entry at the same border crossing in Goondiwindi.

Queensland currently has a hard border in place with NSW due to that state's record number of COVID-19 cases and the dominance of the highly infectious Delta variant.

The hard border is likely to remain in place until at least the end of October.
