A woman who was sentenced for glassing a Wetherspoons worker has now been sacked, with her dad claiming she has “lost her career” and was innocent.
Hollie Crutchley, 22, was told to pay for a chicken basket that she ate from a nearby table at a pub in Cheadle, Staffordshire, and reacted angrily.
She said "Do you want to go, do you want to go?" before throwing the contents of a drink at the woman who was an off duty staff member.
Crutchley then threw her gin glass at the woman which cut her as she raised her arms to protect herself. The victim was taken to hospital where she received six stitches.
She was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for 12 months, at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court after pleading guilty to the attack on August 14 last year.
Crutchley has now been sacked from her job as an estate agent, her dad told the Sun.
Her dad said that his daughter had now “lost her career” as a result of the incident even though the judge had said that he hoped this would not happen.
He reportedly said: "She has never been in trouble before and now she has lost her career, despite what the judge said, because of the publicity coming from the court case.
"She has been employed doing the same thing since leaving school and her employers had stood by her up until today.
"She is sorry for what happened, it has affected her mentally and now she has lost her career over it," he added.
The dad also argued that while his daughter pleaded guilty, she didn’t steal the food but that it was taken to the wrong table and claimed there was no "scuffle".
In court, Rachel Pennington, prosecuting, said the defendant was in the Wheatsheaf pub, Cheadle, at 9.30pm on August 14 last year when she and another took a basket of chicken belonging to other customers and ate the contents.
A woman who worked at the pub but was off duty and socialising suggested Crutchley should pay for the food, reported StokeonTrentLive.
Miss Pennington said: "The defendant shouted, 'Do you want to go, do you want to go?'
"She picked up a drink and threw the glass and contents at her.
"Security went to intervene. The defendant picked up her drink in a gin glass and struck it out towards the woman. The complainant raised her arm to protect her face.
"The victim said the glass was thrown at her. She kept her arms raised. The glass smashed against her left arm."
The victim went to hospital where she received six stitches to a cut.
Crutchley, of Rugeley, pleaded guilty to wounding.
Saleema Mahmood, mitigating, said the defendant is of previous good character.
She said: "The glass was thrown. It was done recklessly. The injury was minimal. She is extremely remorseful."
As part of the suspended sentence Crutchley must complete a rehabilitation activity requirement for 20 days and 120 hours unpaid work. And she must pay her victim £500 compensation.
Judge David Fletcher said: "Your response to being challenged was to throw liquid at her. You picked up a second glass. It was reckless, foolish and extremely dangerous.
"It is a nasty injury. You expressed your remorse. You are of good character.
"You are in work. I hope the consequences of this will not affect your ability to continue with your chosen career."
