A woman from Salford says her life has been ‘quite literally saved’ by a smart speaker.
Nora Morris, from Worsley, slipped in the bathroom in late April and was completely unable to raise the alarm.
Little did she know at the time, but Nora had actually broken her hip — and quickly needed medical attention.

Now, having fully recovered from her injury and spell in hospital, the pensioner is sharing her story to raise awareness over alternative methods of contacting the emergency services.
Despite not being able to reach the phone, Nora managed to get help using her smart speaker.
“I was completely stuck,” she remembered, before explaining that she called to her Amazon Alexa in another room.
That meant she was able to speak to her daughter, Debbie Morris-Connearn, who in turn managed to arrange the help she needed.

“Alexa quite literally saved my life,” Nora added. “I honestly do not know what would have happened if I didn’t have Alexa — I could have lain there for days!”
Nora recovered from her injuries after more than three weeks in the hospital — and she now recommends the devices to her fellow patients and doctors alike.
“During my time in hospital I told everyone I met about how Alexa helped me, and I encourage everyone to get an Echo device, because accidents can happen at any time, and this technology could be a lifeline to help,” she said.
Debbie added: “I bought mum an Amazon Echo to keep her company, help her in the house and to give me peace of mind.
“But I never imagined that Alexa would save the day when mum needed help the most.”
Dennis Stansbury, Alexa UK Country Manager, added: “It’s so inspirational to hear Nora and Debbie’s story and we’re proud that Alexa was able to lend a helping hand during what must have been a difficult situation for them.”
