A 56-year-old woman who drove from Florida to Oak Brook, Ill., to get away from Hurricane Irma may have to find another way home, after her 2015 Dodge Journey was stolen from the driveway of a relative on the first block of Cambridge Drive.
Oak Brook police said both the vehicle driven to Oak Brook from St. Petersburg, Florida, and a 2014 Ford Escape, belonging to the homeowner, were stolen. Both vehicles were left unlocked with the keys inside, and the belongings of the woman who had driven from Florida were left in her vehicle, police said.
The theft occurred between 10 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday, police said.
"We're following some leads," said Officer Garrett Church of the Oak Brook Police Department. "Hopefully, the vehicles will be found and there won't be substantial damage.
He said the police urge residents to secure their vehicles and never leave their keys or any valuables inside.
