Woman who died after falling from bridge above M56 named

A woman who died after falling from a bridge above the M56 motorway in Wythenshawe has been named as Janice Warburton.

Emergency crews were called to assist a woman on bridge above the M56 Sharston Link Road at 3.30pm on Sunday, August 9.

Paramedics attended. The woman passed away before arriving at hospital.

The woman has now been named as 60-year-old Ms Warburton.

A spokesperson for Manchester Coroners' Court confirmed a file had been passed to the coroner.

The M56 was closed between junction 1 at Manchester Airport and Junction 2 at Sharston for around two hours.

A number of police, ambulance crews and an air ambulance responded to the incident.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We got a call at 15.34pm on Sunday 9 August to the M56.

"We sent a number of resources but didn't take anyone to hospital."

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for further information.
