Woman who died after being hit by car on Isle of Lewis named by cops

A woman who died after being hit by a car on the Isle of Lewis yesterday has been named by police.

Cathie Ann MacLeod, from Balallan, was struck by a Renault Clio on the A859 near to the Kinloch Community Hub at around 3.45am on Thursday, May 11.

Emergency services raced to the scene, however, 62-year-old Cathie was pronounced dead.

The road was closed for around 13 hours whilst a full collision investigation was carried out. It reopened at around 5pm.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said it sent two ambulances to the scene. Police are now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

Sergeant Ewan Calder of Fort William Road Policing said: “Our thoughts are with Cathie Ann’s family and friends and our enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.

“I am appealing for anyone who saw either Cathie Ann or the car, and who has not already spoken to officers, to get in touch.

“I would also ask anyone who was in the Balallan area around the time and who may have dash-cam footage which could assist to contact us.”
