Woman who assaulted toddler in front of police at Glasgow flat avoids jail

A drunk woman who assaulted a two-year-old girl in front of police officers has avoided jail.

Guo Zeng, 29, attacked the child that was in her care at a house in Glasgow’s Springburn area last year.

Zeng also attempted to kick the tot but was restrained by officers at the scene.

She pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault on the young girl.

Zeng was ordered to perform 120 hours of unpaid work by Sheriff Patricia Pryce.

Sheriff Pryce said: “This was an offence for which you could quite easily have gone to prison.

“The victim of this assault was a two-year-old girl.

“I understand you were heavily under the influence of alcohol but the court has to punish you for this serious matter.”

The court heard Zeng was spotted by police outside her house at 11.30pm “vomiting as a result of intoxication.”

Officers escorted Zeng to her address but “pushed out” at a young girl in the house.

Prosecutor Monique added: “She attempted to kick her and she was stopped by police and arrested in handcuffs.”

Zeng was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary due to her state of intoxication before being led to the police station.

Lawyer Sinead Corrigan, defending, told the court that Zeng had no previous convictions.

She added: “Zeng had gotten into a stranger’s car and was in a state of vulnerability herself.

“She said she is a woman who rarely drinks but on this occasion had far too much and acted in this way.

“She had a night in custody for this and was extremely upset waking up in a police station as she didn’t know why she was there."
