Woman walking her child is attacked and dragged into bushes by man in Dublin park

A woman out walking with her child was attacked by a man who dragged her into bushes in a park in the capital.

The young mother was pushing a buggy when she was set upon by the man in a quiet area of Waterville, Blanchardstown, Dublin.

The woman - who wishes to remain anonymous - said she was terrified but managed to get away, Dublin Live reports.

She said: “He was wearing a dark jacket and grey uniform-looking trousers.

“He was also wearing a grey hat and was young looking. I think he was non-Irish.

“He followed me until I got to a secluded part of the park and then attacked me.”

The woman added that she noticed someone following her as she went from the sidewalk down the wooded area of the park.

She tried to turn back but it was too late.

She said: “He jumped on me from behind as soon as we passed each other.

“He was holding me, I screamed and shouted for help, but nobody was around.

The heroic woman was able to fight off the attacker and get away from the scene.

She said: “I managed to escape soon and as I screamed while running away with the buggy, he was scared off and ran away.

“I was stronger than him. He was my size but I am strong because I exercise and I was able to escape.

She added: “I managed to get his arms away from me, it took me about 10 scary seconds to do so.

“He didn’t hurt me but I am scared to go outside, not just in Waterville but anywhere else, I see danger everywhere.”

The woman added that a man, fitting the description of her attacker, has been spotted by her friends in the Waterville neighbourhood since the horrific ordeal.

In a statement Gardai said they “are investigating an alleged assault which occurred at approx. 1pm on 10 April at Waterville Park, Blanchardstown”.

Investigations are currently ongoing and gardai are appealing to anyone with any information to come forward.
