Naperville woman, her dog die after being struck by car

Nov. 11--A Naperville woman who died after being struck by a car Sunday night while walking her dog is being remembered as someone who loved animals and adventure.

Emily S. Driscoll, 22, was walking her greyhound, Quincy, across the intersection of Book Road and Rickert Drive about 8:15 p.m. when they were hit by a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 74-year-old Plainfield man, police said in a news release. Driscoll was transported to Edward Hospital, where she later died. Her dog also died.

Driscoll, a 2010 graduate of Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora, was studying surgical technology at the College of DuPage, said Niko Vanscoit, her boyfriend of six years. He said the two had planned to get married after they finished school.

He remembered Driscoll on Monday for her love of adventure and said she took trips to New York and Hawaii to visit friends. Her other love, he said, was animals.

"Her greyhound (Quincy) was her best friend, and I loved both of them eternally," Vanscoit said in an email. "He was a noble pup who loved his mom, and I hope they are both in a better place."

Police are still investigating the crash, and the motorist has not been charged. They have asked that anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information contact them at 630-305-5379 or parcelk@naperville.il.us.
