Woman wakes to find daughter's car smashed up in the middle of the street

A woman woke up to find her daughter's car with its headlight smashed and in the middle of the road outside her house.

Lisa Pothecary, 51, woke up at 4.30am on Tuesday, February 25, and saw that the white Renault had spun 45 degrees from where it had been parked the night before in Wern Street, Clydach Vale near Tonypandy.

"I looked out of the window and saw the car like that in the middle of the road.

"It was just below the house. I heard a noise earlier that morning but with it being so windy, I didn't think anything more of it," she said.

Ms Pothecary, who lives with her daughter, Amy, the owner of the car, added: "It was awful seeing it, I couldn't work out what had happened at first."

The car was parked next to waste ground that Ms Pothecary said is used by people for parking sometimes, but she has never known any problems like this before.

"We know which direction the car's been hit from, it looks like it's come from the waste ground and driven straight into the side of it," she added.

There were no witnesses to the incident but Ms Pothecary said that several neighbours mentioned to her that cars had been "speeding up and down the main road" at around 1am on Tuesday.

Her daughter, Amy Pothecary, 25, uses the car to drive to her job at a housing association in Pontypridd. It has been recovered and is being assessed for damage.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "The incident was reported at approximately 5am on 25 Feb. Damage had been caused to a car while it was parked on Wern Street, Tonypandy.

"It's believed it was caused by vehicle but the driver did not stop at the scene. Anybody who may have witnessed anything is urged to contact 101 quoting reference *071639."
