Woman wakes from nap and discovers she is on wrong easyJet flight

A woman woke up from her nap only to discover she was on the wrong easyJet flight.

Gemma Cargin believed she was heading to Belfast but ended up 1,200 miles away in Gibraltar.

The teacher said she boarded the flight from Manchester Airport on Sunday with ease.

Gemma told BBC NI that her boarding pass had been scanned by staff, but no one had picked up on the fact she was taking a serious detour from Northern Ireland.

Gemma said: “I woke up from my nap and I looked at the time, and I just asked ‘When are we landing, are we landing soon?'

“They told me we were landing in an hour and fifteen minutes - and I said ‘Is this flight not going to Belfast?'

“They told me it was going to Gibraltar. I said: 'Guys, I'm on the wrong flight'.”

According to BelfastLive, a spokesperson for easyJet said: “EasyJet works closely with all of our airports to ensure the safety of all passengers.

“We are investigating with the airport and our ground handling partner at Manchester how Miss Cargin was able to travel on the wrong flight.

“As soon as the mistake was realised, it was arranged for them to fly back to Manchester and on to Belfast, their original intended destination.

“Miss Cargin was looked after by our team throughout and provided with refreshments.

“We would like to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

After arriving in Gibraltar, Gemma was allowed to exit the aircraft for air and even managed to get a spot of sightseeing done from the vicinity of the plane - which meant she would not have to quarantine as she re-entered the UK.

She was flown back on the same plane to Manchester before finally arriving in Belfast a whole twelve hours later than expected.

Although it was not the short 40-minute flight she was expecting, the 25-year-old was able to find some positives out of the experience.

She told the BBC: "I'd never been before, so now I can tick it off the list.

"I have proof, the selfie was a souvenir."
