Woman vows to solve mystery of fence which looks as though it was 'erected in anger'

A woman claims she recently had to swap for the window seat in her office as her colleague just "couldn't stand" looking at the highly unusual fence outside.

The higgledy-piggledy construction looks more like a puzzle than a simple garden fence, with uneven planks jutting out at all heights and angles.

However, while her co-worker can't bear the sight of it, the unnamed woman finds it fascinating and says she's become "quite fond of it."

She and her colleagues initially thought the unfinished-looking fence would only be there temporarily, but nearly two years on and it's still standing firm, mystifying and frustrating them in equal measure.

The fence has been there for nearly two years, and has left the co-workers baffled (The fence in question)

Taking to Reddit, the amused woman - who goes by the username u/pigeonpartier - shared a pic of the fence in question, writing: "I got the window desk as my colleague couldn't stand looking at this fence."

She added: "My theory is that it was erected in anger, perhaps due to the black metal fence which I assume was put up by the adjacent property owner. I wish I were brave and charming enough to knock on their door and get the story."

Likening the fence to a "combination histogram/box plot", the perplexed poster turned amateur detective declared the fence to be "a mystery I need to solve."

Her fellow Reddit users have been left equally intrigued by what some have described as a "Blair Witch fence" or a "spite fence", offering up a few origin theories of their own.

One person commented: "This just screams ‘the kids need a fence to play outside. (months later) right I’ll do it my f**** self and I don’t give a s*** what it looks like Dave’."

Another said: "Perhaps they read the Home Improvement Magazine with the article about uncovered floorboards being so last season? Two birds one stone kind of thing. Looks secure, so the other half must have approved."
