A woman may have saved a stranger’s life by quoting the lyrics of a Linkin Park song to him.
Cristina Settanni was driving along an Orlando motorway when she spotted a man sitting on an overpass ledge.
The healthcare worker was concerned and turned her vehicle around so that she could approach the man.
“I stopped because I’ve been where he was,” she said, in a video posted by Florida’s Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
“So I know what it’s like to stand on the ledge and think that that’s your only option.”
“He needed somebody to show that somebody cared enough to stop and [cared] enough to tell him that he didn’t need to do that today,” she added.
Ms Settanni sat next to the man on the ledge and said she quoted a lyric from the Linkin Park song “One More Light” to comfort him.
“Who cares if one more light goes out? Well, I do,” the healthcare worker recited.
“I don’t know if it clicked with him but he just cried,” she said.
Police officers later arrived at the scene to find the pair sitting together on the overpass’ ledge.
Bodycamera footage shows one officer pulling the man away from the edge.
He was not arrested and was taken instead to a mental health facility. Police officers have not publicly named him for privacy reasons.
Ms Settanni said she had thought of the man every day since.
“One More Light” is the title track of Linkin Park’s last album.
It was released in 2017, weeks before Chester Bennington, the band’s frontman, took his own life.
The singers bandmates reunited at the Hollywood Bowl in October 2017 to pay tribute to Bennington at a memorial concert attended by thousands.
