A woman was arrested after she tried to make off from police and smashed into the central barrier of the M58.
The incident took place at around 3.25am on Tuesday, on the sliproad of junction 1 of the motorway.
A Toyota Igo crashed into a barrier on the sliproad, police said.
North West Motorway Police said the driver was arrested for failing to supply a breath sample after also failing to stop for police.
They tweeted: "A driver was arrested for failing to supply a specimen of breath after also failing to stop for police and crashing into the central barrier of the M58 Merseyside."
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed that a 37-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop and failing to provide a specimen.
She is currently in custody.
