Passengers on the buses in the queue abandoned the vehicles.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service confirmed crews from Temple, Bath and Avonmouth attended the incident.

They added that firefighters used a scoop stretcher to free a female casualty who is being treated by paramedics.

The spokesperson was not able to comment on the woman's condition or injuries.

It is not yet clear when the road might reopen.

First Bus advised passengers requiring services to Kingswood, Hanham and Brislington to use Rupert Street or Broadmead.
