Woman trapped under a bus in the city centre remains in hospital with serious injury

A woman who became trapped under a bus in Bristol city centre remains in hospital for treatment for a serious injury to her leg.

Firefighters, police and ambulance crews were called to the scene at Broad Quay, near to Sainsbury's, shortly after 7.30pm on Monday, November 25.

Dozens of emergency vehicles were at the scene, with queues of buses behind.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary have since released this statement on the current condition of the woman: "We were called to reports of a collision between a bus and woman pedestrian shortly after 7.30pm in Broad Quay.

"The pedestrian was taken to hospital where she received treatment for a serious ankle injury. She remains in hospital in a stable condition. The road was reopened at about 10pm."

The police have not confirmed whether anyone has been arrested in connection to this incident.

Avon Fire and Rescue used specialist equipment to free the woman.

A spokesperson for  First West of England  said: “We can confirm that there was an incident this evening (Monday 25 November) on the corner of Baldwin Street and Broad Quay in Bristol city centre involving one of our buses and a member of the public.

"First and foremost our thoughts are with the individual concerned and we have been working closely with the emergency services at the scene of the incident. We will also fully assist the relevant authorities in the investigation that will be undertaken.

"We are not in a position to comment any further at this stage.”
