Woman 'trapped and sexually assaulted' by alleged cocaine dealer in car

A man is accused of falsely imprisoning a woman inside a car and sexually assaulting her.

Joseph Prior is also said to have supplied his alleged victim with cocaine during an incident in Vauxhall Road .

The 39-year-old, of Fontenoy Street, Liverpool city centre, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court this morning.

Prior, with short brown hair, beard and glasses, wore a navy jacket, blue polo shirt and blue jeans in the dock.

He spoke only to confirm his personal details and to enter not guilty pleas to four offences during the short hearing.

According to the false imprisonment charge, Prior "unlawfully and injuriously imprisoned" the woman and "detained her against her will", on March 9 last year.

He is alleged to have sexually assaulted the woman by "intentionally touching her", when "she did not consent and he did not reasonably believe that she was consenting".

Prior pleaded not guilty to supplying a quantity of cocaine to the woman and also a charge of possessing the Class A drug on the same occasion.

Christopher Taylor, prosecuting, said a trial would be estimated to last three to four days.

Judge Anil Murray said Prior will next appear when the trial takes place on the week commencing July 6 this year.

He granted Prior bail with a condition of residence and a condition not to contact the prosecution witnesses.
