Woman transforms 'plain' bathroom into plant paradise using £22 sheet of vinyl

Finding the cash to renovate a bathroom can prove difficult - especially when you've just poured your savings into purchasing a house.

New home-owner Chloe Preece was left feeling very uninspired by her 'boring' bathroom after buying a semi-detached Victorian house in West Yorkshire with her husband Daniel.

The home had been extensively renovated by the developers before they moved in and, despite being brand new, Chloe was determined to transform the plain grey and cream bathroom which 'wasn't to her taste' without the extortionate cost.

It took just one day for the super-saver to give the space a complete makeover, with a final bill of just £167.

The once 'plain' bathroom was turned into a plant paradise using tropical-themed vinyl, which cost just £22, as well as giving the cabinets and bath a lick of paint.

Chloe said: "The bathroom was new when we bought the house, so we couldn't really justify pulling it out and wanted to transform it without spending lots of money.

"The bath panel and cupboard were the wrong shade of grey to go with the flooring - it was a disaster and wasn't to my taste.

"But something had to be done because it wasn't liveable and it didn't look right, we wanted to work towards giving the house some more character.

"I started by painting the cupboards dark green and I didn't realise how much a lick of paint could change it - usually I'm quite gung-ho with decorating but I was actually happy with the results at that point.

"We went for a Jumanji vibe by adding lots of plants, and I stumbled across a recently-launched vinyl design company on Facebook and bought their banana plant vinyl to stick on the bath panel."

It took the 34-year-old two hours to complete the paint job, with one pot costing £19, and just half an hour to measure and stick the vinyl from Manchester-based company Jes Rose.

Chloe added plants which came to £77 and finished the revamp with a £35 tribal artwork and several Ikea wall hangings for the plants for £14.

She added: "Money was a big factor in the transformation; there was nothing wrong with the bathroom because it was plain white and brand new but we just wanted to work to give it some character again.

"I don't usually manage to do something on the cheap and only intended on painting the bath panel at first - it just evolved into this naturally.

"The vinyl didn't just end up being the finishing touch, it was the cherry on top of the plant vibe and jazzed it up.

"I was initially worried that the vinyl would be a nightmare and pull the paint off but it has held up really well.

"People have gone wild for our bathroom online, saying that it's the bathroom of dreams, and I'm just thinking 'wow, we did that!'"

The recently married couple have documented their whole home transformation on Instagram , showing how they have used vinyl to give the house a fresh look, including in their utility room.
