Woman transforms gran's damp-ridden bedroom into 'little haven' for just £230

A woman has revealed how she transformed her gran's dank, damp-ridden bedroom into a "little haven" for just £230.

Tracey Davies, 47, from Worcester, renovated the tiny room into a bright, airy space with some inspired budget buys and hard work.

Her efforts were praised on social media when she unveiled the lively make-over in a post to the We Love Mrs Hinch Facebook group.

Pictures show how the room's dated wallpaper, furniture and blinds were stripped from the room and replaced with modern alternatives.

Tracey undertook the ambitious project after her grandmother Frances fell ill about six months ago and was later moved to a care home.

Frances, 95, had lived in the council flat since 1929. Tracey and her husband moved in 23 years ago.

Tracy said she felt guilty about renovating the room but eventually decided that it was time for a makeover when her daughter also moved out.

"We went from being in a cramped room, with barely any storage to having all three bedrooms," she told the Daily Mail .

"The furniture in her room hadn’t been moved for over 20 years so the damp and cobwebs were vile but now it’s my little haven."

In total, Tracey spent £223.39 on the refurbishment; spending £123 on new furniture and £67.94 on wallpaper. She bought blinds from Blids2Go for a further £36.45.

Tracey managed to make further savings by upcycling her grandmother's old wardrobe with a coat of paint.

Social media users have praised the praised for her imaginative work by other impressed users.

"Well done! You’ve worked so hard on that house. What a difference! - hope your nan is ok," wrote one.

"What a beautiful transformation and I bet your nan is happy that her home will continue to be home for her family," another added.

Sadly, Tracey's grandmother didn't realise it was her former bedroom.

"I’ve shown her the pictures, she loves the room but has no recollection that it’s her old room," Tracey said.
