Woman tragically dies of Covid-19 heart attack within 23 minutes of calling 999

A woman tragically died of a heart attack brought on by Covid-19 within 23 minutes of calling an ambulance to her home.

Former council worker Patricia Brown, aged 66, was sadly found dead by paramedics when they arrived at her address.

An inquest heard Patricia, who lived in North Staffordshire, dialled 999 at 8.50am on November 8 but lost her battle for life by the time help arrived, as reported by Stoke-on-Trent Live.

Assistant coroner, Mark Henley, said: "She called an an ambulance complaining of shortness of breath and chest pain.

"The total time between the 999 call first being placed and them arriving at her home is 23 minutes.

"They gained entry using a key safe for which she has given the number for when she called 999. It was a relatively short period of time.

"The crew found her already dead."

The inquest heard Patricia had previously battled breast cancer but was given the all clear on October 21 last year.

Before finding out that news, she tested positive for Covid on October 11 and requested a note for work.

By November 5 she reported feeling better but felt 'shaky in her legs with shortness of breath'.

Sister Christine Sturge said: "She was born in Wolstanton and worked at Stoke-on-Trent City Council for 25 years. She had no related illnesses.

"She was ill with Covid. She called for an ambulance but passed away before they arrived.

"We would hate to think that she lay suffering for a long time by herself."

Coroner Mark Henley gave the medical cause of death as an acute cardiovascular event caused by a Covid-19 infection.

She died of natural causes.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "One ambulance attended the scene. On arrival, we discovered one patient, a woman. Unfortunately, it became clear that nothing could be done to save her and she was confirmed deceased at the scene.”
