Woman tragically dies from coronavirus following alleged outbreak at Leeds Morrisons store

A Leeds woman has tragically died after testing positive for coronavirus following an alleged outbreak at a Morrisons store in Leeds.

The woman, who was in her 50s, passed away on October 30.

She worked at the Morrisons store at The Merrion Centre, where it has been alleged that an outbreak occurred with claims 28 employees tested positive for Covid-19.

The outbreak was alleged to have happened in October.

All workers who tested positive were told to self-isolate, according to one employee.

One woman, who was close to the employee, told LeedsLive: "We learned that a number of people had tested positive who worked there.

"As far as we know people had been self-isolating.

"But she became very ill and sadly passed away on October 30th. It's obviously heartbreaking.

"I cannot say any more at this stage, but I just wanted to get this information out there.

"I feel the company has a right to acknowledge this and shoppers have a right to know if employees have been in and around there whilst potentially being positive."

Morrisons has declined to comment on the alleged outbreak at the Leeds city centre store in October, but said "we have no employees who tested positive at this time".

In a statement, a Morrisons spokesperson said: "Our thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time."
