SONGKHLA: The dead body of a unidentified woman tourist was found in an off-limits section of a popular waterfall in Hat Yai district on Thursday.
She was found in a rock pool at Ton Nga Chang Wildlife Sanctuary, between the first and second levels of the seven-tier Ton Nga Chang waterfall.
The body was seen by another visitor to the waterfall and reported about 2.30pm.
Police and sanctuary officials sent to the scene reported the dead woman was wearing a white T-shirt but was naked from the waist down. She was in an area prohibited to visitors because there was a dangerous whirlpool there.
They were unable to retrieve the body, which was at the bottom of a steep ravine. A rescue team would be called in to recover it.
Police were investigating.
There had been no reports of a tourist visiting the falls being missing.
