Woman threatens to move out after sister 'disrespects wishes' over last slice of cake

As much as we may love our siblings, there are times when they drive us crazy - even when they don't necessarily mean to.

And one woman has been left so furious at her sister that she's threatened to move out of the flat they live in together after her sibling ignored her wishes regarding the last slice of a cake they had shared the night before.

The woman, 24, explained she and her sister, 27, had each had one slice of a "small cake" each, and she had then told her sibling not to eat the final piece, as she wanted it as a treat when she came home from work the next day.

But when the time came to scoff the slice, she was horrified to find the cake was gone - and branded her sister "selfish and inconsiderate" for eating it.

In a post on Reddit, the woman raged: "I live with my older sister in a small apartment. We generally get along well and share household responsibilities. We also share groceries and occasionally treat ourselves to some desserts or snacks.

"Last week, I bought a small cake for us to share. We each had a slice, and there was one piece left. I mentioned that I wanted to save the last piece for a treat after work the following day. My sister agreed and I didn't think much of it.

"The next day, I came home from work looking forward to enjoying the last slice of cake. When I opened the fridge, I discovered that the cake was gone. My sister admitted that she had eaten it, even though she knew I had called dibs on it. She said she had a moment of weakness and thought it wouldn't be a big deal.

"I got upset and accused her of being selfish and inconsiderate for eating the piece I had been looking forward to all day. She felt guilty and apologized, but I was still really hurt by her actions."

The woman's sister offered to replace the cake, but the woman said she was so livid at her sibling for not "respecting her wishes" that she was considering moving out to her own flat.

She added: "My sister offered to buy another cake or any other dessert of my choice to make it up to me, but I told her it was not about the cake itself. It's about her not respecting my wishes and taking something that I had clearly claimed.

"This incident has made me reconsider living with my sister. I feel like our relationship is strained, and I'm thinking about moving out to have my own space and avoid any further conflicts. However, I'm aware that my sister can't afford the rent on her own, and if I move out, she'll likely have to move back in with our parents.

"My sister thinks I'm overreacting about a small issue and that it's just a piece of cake. She has already apologised and offered to replace it, but I still feel hurt and disrespected."

Commenters on the post were baffled by the woman's solution to the problem, as they largely agreed that she was "overreacting" about the cake.

One person said: "The way you describe this you are massively overreacting to an isolated incident and jeopardising your relationship over a bit of pastry."

While another added: "You should have had her go out and get you some cake. Saying you are hurt and disrespected over a piece of cake is being overly dramatic."

And a third said: "I get it, you were looking forward to the cake. But, your sister offered to replace it and admitted she had a moment of weakness. You are making this into something it isn't by equating it to a lack of respect.

"It was a slice of cake dude. Sometimes a piece of cake is just a piece of cake."
