Woman threatened by thug with hammer before being mugged while walking in South Dublin park

A walker was left terrified after a thug with a hammer threatened her before taking her bag in a South Dublin park.

Gardai are investigating the incident in the Mount Carmel area of Firhouse on Thursday.

The woman was out walking at around 5pm when the man approached her and started shouting.

The terrified woman, 30s, had her bag taken as well as some other possessions before the mugger ran off.

Luckily she wasn't physically harmed during the incident.

Gardai are now on the hunt for the culprit and have asked anyone with any information to please contact Rathfarnham Station.

 A spokesman said: "Shortly after 5pm a woman (30s) was approached a threatened by a man armed with a hammer while out walking in the Mount Carmel Park area of Firhouse on Thursday 19/12/2019.

"He took her handbag and other property before making off on foot. She was not physically injured.

"Enquires are ongoing."
