Woman thought she was being catfished on dating app - turns out her match was in prison

If you're on a dating app, or have ever been before, chances are you might have come across a catfish before - someone pretending to be something they're not.

It's pretty common and one woman who has plenty of experience with these kinds of people is TikTok user @sydneyplus.

Sydney claims to work in customer support for a dating app and as such has received a number of wild requests from users asking her to find out if their matches are what they seem.

She recently started making videos sharing some of the "insane" experiences she's had in her role and one, in particular, has gone viral.

In the clip, she shares the story of a woman known only as Denise, who thought she was being catfished by a man who was refusing to meet up with her.

It turns out there was much more to the tale than they both could have imagined.

Sydney said: "I work customer support for a dating app that shall not be named and I'm gonna start a series of the insane customer support experiences I've had."

She then shares a screenshot of Denise's message, which reads: "The guy I've been talking to won't meet in person. It's weird tho cuz we've FaceTimed before. I'd move on but we have such a strong connection... Can u help? Is he for real?"

Sydney goes on to explain to those watching: "Nine times out of 10 if a person won't meet you in person, the reason is he's taken, but upon looking at his account, he has no confirmed meetups with any of the matches on his account, which led me to do some other fun digging..."

She did some digging into the potential catfish (@sydneyplus/TikTok)

And the result is jaw-dropping.

Sydney proceeded to read out her response to Denise, which said: "I have good news and bad news.

"The good news: Your dream man Daniel does in fact exist.

"The bad news: He's three years into a 10-year prison sentence at San Quentin for cooking and distributing meth.

"It's safe to say he's playing the long game with you. Best of luck, Denise."

She adds: "Hey, prison weddings are a thing..."

The video has since been watched over 600,000 times and garnered more than 110,000 likes.

Thousands also took the time to comment on the clip, sharing their thoughts.

One said: "People contact customer service for dating apps?? I am in shock."

Another wrote: "Is this the craziest story ever? Or are there worse ones? Please do not hold back girl."

"Whatever they're paying you, it's not enough if you write responses like that," proclaimed a third.

Someone else added: "THE CONTENT I DIDN'T KNOW I NEEDED! Please continue!!"
